Talasite Owl

There are exactly two reasons to go through the hell that is leveling up Jewelcrafting, in my opinion.

1) It’s really nice to feel needed, and I love having people ask me to cut gems for them. (Though funnily enough, when I admit that I do not have a particular JC design and point them to the prices in the AH, they aren’t willing to buy the thing so I can make it for them. I wonder why that is…oh. Right. It’s because they’re ABSURDLY expensive!!!!!!!! )

2) The [Talasite Owl]

In my opinion, the Talasite Owl is one of the best trinkets in the game for a healer.

It is a BoP trinket (so yes, you have to level up Jewelcrafting to get it) that has both an Equip and a Use effect. As a reminder, you have to have 270 Jewelcrafting and be Revered with the Sha’atar to get the design. So…go ask some friends for a few more Botanica runs. You need the [Prismatic Mittens of Mending] anyway, right?

Equip : Restores 14 mana per 4 sec

Some of you will say that’s not a huge number, and you’re right. Debating against that or an extra +70 heal is up to you and your gear. Personally, I try to keep my mana regen as high as possible.

The Use effect, however, is why I love this trinket so much I want to marry it and make tiny little trinkets.

Use : Restores 900 mana over 12 sec.

Go ahead, drool a little bit. What is that? That’s a baby innervate is what that is.

No, it’s not as good as innervate, but will those priests in the audience with an innervate please raise your hand?

That’s what I thought. Now simmer down.

You can pop that baby every 5 minutes. If you do it preemptively, then you can use it twice in some boss fights.

The alternative Use effects on other trinkets involve giving you a big +heal bonus for 15 seconds (ish), or giving you a spirit boost for 15 seconds, or lowering the cost of some of your spells for 15 seconds…

I don’t like those Use effects as much because I don’t spam heals for most fights. So I may only get to take advantage of the trinket’s use 2…maaaybe 3 times before it wears off.

If I were a paladin healer, they DO spam heals. Or a druid healer - they also do a lot of chain casting to keep HoTs up.

But I’m not. I’m a priest. And I like to give my tank a greater heal followed by an HoT, pat them on the head, give them a peanut butter and jelly sammich, and send them into battle for a while before I need to bandage them again.

Assuming that I’m low on mana, I get the full use of this trinket. It’s not a phantom buff that drops off and does nothing if I don’t use it - it uses itself, giving me back the thing I need in order to continue healing - mana.

I love it. I love it more than any other trinket I’ve come across. That, and I don’t have a pet druid yet that when I call out “OOM” will pop out and innervate me.

As a side bonus, you get a really spiffy looking green stone flying owl vanity pet for the time that it’s active. And they took away the dying sound and animation when it wore off (because that was just heartwrenching), so now it just fades away when it’s done.

Coolest vanity pet ever, I wish they’d let the pet stay around even when it stopped giving me mana. =]

Good to know. I am currectly making an (almost) Engineer only Ally account on Dagger spine, but I had taken up Jewelcrafting on my Horde priest on Demonsoul, and will continue the trend here.

The way I see it, you can still get some attack pets from Jewelcrafting (one of the main reasons most of my characters are engineers), plus priests don’t need a Parachute Cloak since they have levitate, and they aren’t going to be tanking, so no need for Goblin Land mines or bombs.

    Keep up the great work!

*nod* And for the damage casters out there, don’t discount the Living Ruby Serpent

Oh, and I forgot to mention the rep requirements on the owl design. *scampers up and fixes*

Arr! I want my priest to be a tailor and an enchanter. If i go for these trinkets, it means i have to level two and then drop JC for the third after i get them made.

I figure since cloth is easier — and maybe cheaper — to buy or farm in large quantities than greens and blues are, i ought to level JC & Enchanting and then drop JC for Tailoring once i get all the trinkets i want out of it. What do you think? My guild has plenty of JC’s that we don’t need me to be one, too.

  4. Vonya Says:

Well, at the moment, this is really the only BoP JC recipe worth note.

I’d say that if you don’t have any other desire to be an Jewelcrafter, then don’t worry about it. There aren’t any other trinkets that do something like this, to be sure, but there are plenty that do other things.

And JC is intensely expensive to level up just for kicks. Sure, you can still use the trinket after you drop JC (unlike the tailoring output) but it just doesn’t seem worth it to me.

And good gravy, why are you buying greens to level up your enchanting. Don’t you have friends that’ll take you through instances?

  5. Mel Says:

Oh, heck no, my priest is level 20. I’m not buying him things to level enchanting with. :) My point was that i should stick with Enchanting as i level him so he has plenty of crap to disenchant.

You’re right about the recipe being the only really useful one, though. The figurines are the only BoP items and none of the others are particularly compelling. Due to the expense, I’ll probably just do without.

  6. Vonya Says:

Oh, horray for new priests! I hope you’ll keep me updated on your journey then - it’s been a while since I’ve been a newb, and if you’ve got some questions, I’ll happily research and answer where I can!

But yes, at that level, stick with enchanting. My priestess gets sooooooo many enchanting mats that it’s ridiculous. And those oils you can create with high level enchanting are simply marvelous. Very much well-worth the talent grind even on their own merit.

Farming the primals for the high level healing enchants makes me a sad panda though. =[

/hides her rogue who farms her primals

What? Nothing to see here. /whistle with innocence

    O.O

@Mel, if you plan to stick with Tailoring, Enchanting is practically a must have to go with it. At higher levels, Imbued Netherweave requires 2 [Arcane Dust]/bolt. On Drenden Ally side, that stuff goes for like 40 to 60g a stack.

  8. Vonya Says:

    @stephi

    40 gold.

    Per stack.

    ….

*scampers off to the Auction House*

    Nice post.

    and lol:

“The Use effect, however, is why I love this trinket so much I want to marry it and make tiny little trinkets.”

  10. Ego Says:

    @Delaney
    Thanks! *grins*

  11. Zingiber Says:

Way, way late to this, but… Stephi and Ego, a bolt of imbued netherweave is 54 netherweave cloth and two rune thread. 54 cloth is 9 bolts of netherweave.

3 bolts and a thread is a belt or bracers, of which two will, between them, drop two to three arcane dust. Alternately make netherweave pants, which will drop 2-3 arcane dust about 3/4 of the time — and the time it doesn’t it drops a Greater Planar Essence. Regardless, it leaves the third trio of bolts to make the imbued netherweave belt.

240 cloth plus two netherweb spider silks is one imbued netherweave bag.
