Many thanks to EgoLock for supplying me with a blog post for today!! Look below the cut for the goods.
Folks, this is a warning to you all. Ego is temporarily removed from us and has asked that I fill in in her absence. This post will not have the polish you are used to and was intended for another blog altogether. You have been warned.
What was it? Picked on as a child by an Uncle, Father, Aunt, Mother or Neighbor? Somehow you must have learned from another to take pleasure in the woe and hurt of another human. I say it that way because it is the only way I can rationalize it. In my head there are really two options, either you learned this from another or you were simply born this way and never learned different. Perhaps its was the absence of kindness that allows you to act the way you do. Accounts for the reason you gank lowbies, cause drama or simply produce grief in mass supply.
If I was just speaking to you, know this. I have no room for you. I would truly be surprised if anyone does. You need to realize that you are not helping anyone by acting this way. And don’t tell me its you $15 a month and you can play how you want. This rant is not just about the WoW, this is about life itself. Don’t park in the handicap spot, hell take your happy ass out a few dozen yards and leave the close parking spots for those crotchety old folks that are just too hard headed to apply for the handicap parking sticker. There is no prize for getting that close spot other than a bigger ass that you don’t want anyway.
Don’t leave your shopping cart out after you empty it. If you cant make the ever so long trek back to the store proper, then make use of the cart stalls that are provided. Don’t litter, thats your garbage, put it where its supposed to go! And please for the love of god, learn that just because someone was a jerk to you does not give you the right to spread it around. See that they were a jerk, notice how it made you feel and learn from that. Being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk helps no one. Stop it.
No, that said. Here is the confession. I am a jerk. Everyone is at some point or another. We have bad days and we take those bad days out on those around us. Sometimes because we don’t want to own up to causing the bad ourselves and sometimes just because crummy stuff happens to us. There is no excuse for taking it out on those you care about, but because they care about you they understand and stay around you. Apologize to them after. Give them some explanation for your actions, however unjustified they may have been. Help them understand why you acted the way you did, and above all LEARN from all of this, the negative actions of your own and the owning up to those actions to the poorly treated. The point here is not that “it is ok to sometimes be a jerk so long as you explain yourself after”, no. It IS that you need to both own up to it and learn from it. Learn so that you might see it coming later and avoid it. If you are the kind of person that can change. If you are not, then leave here, this is not the place for you. We have no room for you if you cannot change.
There it is. The convoluted point of my post. Learn from your actions and stop being a jerk!

I’m not a jerk, I’m just… egotistical

Great post. I am, too often, a jerk. I AM egotistical enough to think those times are fewer and farther between episodes, and that I recognize it sooner, and shut up or go away until I’m all better.
There is no excuse for taking it out on those you care about, but because they care about you they understand and stay around you. Apologize to them after.
Perfectly, perfectly stated. Thanks, ‘Lock! (And thanks, Ego, for getting him to post it here!)

I guess I’ve always chalked this kind of behavior up to the “I have no control at home, my life sucks, and I’m going to make your’s suck” egocentric, snot-nosed, little brats out there. But I suppose I could expand my thinking and allow for them being someone who just is having a bad day (instead of a bad life).
Just another reason why I like to play on the Carebear Servers…lol.
