Okay.

TJ totally crossed the server line to badger me into joining her in the madness that is NaBloPoMo - an attempt to cause bloggers’ heads to explode through daily blog quotas.

One blog a day. For the entire month of November. It’s enough to make even the most courageous blogger fall to their knees and quiver in terror.

So here’s the deal. I’ve been attempting to keep this blog at least mostly warcraft related.

With a post-a-day requirement, there’s no way I could even fill in the non-T-days with warcraft-related reminiscences.

So I’d end up blogging about my trips to the coffee-machine at work, ranting about my dislike of shopping, regaling you with tales of my overly-protective cats….

…basically, a whole bucketful of non-wow stuff.

Obviously, Tuesdays and Thursdays would remain sacred and devoted to serious posts about the game.

But every other day would be like those booths where they blindfold you and then make you stick your hand into a box, then let you pet a bunny, feel the rough bark of a treestump, or land you wrist-deep in a bowl of pistachio pudding.

Would you guys prefer the blog at least attempt to retain some semblance of a theme or purpose? Or are you prepared for the pot-luck posting that would await you for the rest of the month, should I join this band wagon of insanity?

I enjoy your style no matter WHAT you post. Besides, since it all comes through Google Reader, I have to at least skim it. ;)

Hey, I am already almost posting every day about wow stuff… and almost none of it makes sense. I’d rather read about your day spent washing the car.

    I say go for it.

Oh yeah… and you want badgered? TJ actually made an alt on my server and blind whispered me to come join the darn thing!

I of course did the mature thing, and put her on /ignore

I love pistachio pudding and am also slave to cats, as well as being addicted to WoW, so go for the pot luck posts! Stream of consciousness writing is quite popular amongst TJ’s jackals as you know.

Besides, if you don’t join, who knows what lengths TJ will go to…..

Heh. TJ’s been busy. I already signed up for NoFloBlaPuBaGoFob, and last night I gets a whisper from “Teej” telling me “you can DO EET!”

Me, I votes that you stick with yer theme and not dilute yersself. Even ifs somedays you got nothing more than “today I walked from the inn to the mailbox, saw I had no mail, and went back into the inn”. But if you wants to write about yer fantasy RL world of cars and coffee bastards I’ll still reads it.

I would prefer only WoW stuff. I read enough blogs as it is.
As long as your WoW posts aren’t affected though, I can always just skim the posts about the war zone that was your bathroom when you put on makeup this morning.

I prefer WoW-only topics. I don’t mind an occassional daliance into the real world, but when I go out to read blogs, it’s because I want to read about WoW. =)

  7. TJ Says:

I say you post what you want on your blog. Anyone who wants to read about ‘only wow’ is perfectly capable of skipping a post they don’t feel like reading. And writing about things besides wow doesn’t take anything away from your actual wow postings. Writing consistently, on any topic, can only improve your writing style and capabilities, encourage more freeness of thought, and make you a better blogger over all. Anyone who only wants to read your blog if you’re writing specifically what they want to read, well, they can go start their own and run it the way they want.

Write whatever you desire. Tags are there for the picky people ^.^

  9. Sweetpetal Says:

Write whatever you damn well please, is my advice. Don’t like it? Don’t read it. It ain’t rocket science.

Personally, I’d read the WoW posts only. My real life is complicated enough without reading about others’. I don’t read Entertainment Weekly either. But non-WoW posts wouldn’t bother me at all. Easy enough to skip.

@TJ: She did ask what people’s preferences are so obviously she does care what readers think. While it’s true that writing for the sake of writing is productive, by creating a platform wherein you have consistently included topics of a specific nature, you are setting up expectations for what you will write in the future. If you don’t go out of your way to do this, obviously no one has any reason to expect it.

Some bloggers - like myself - enjoy this sense of “responsibility” to maintain coherency. Other authors blog simply because they enjoy writing and aren’t as likely to feel this sort of an obligation. In the past, Ego has been very consistent, to such a degree that she’s ensured hat someone can take her place writing (about WoW things) on days when other obligations prevent her from doing so. I guess it comes down to an author’s personal view on why she is writing in the first place. For me, if I want to write about well … any number of things that aren’t related to Druids and WoW, I have a personal blog for that (that I never update because I find writing about WoW more interesting and fun).

Obviously, it’s your platform, Ego, so do what you would like! I’m only expressing a preference since that’s what was requested. =)

Guess it all depends on the ratio as most people I’m here for the wow stuff I enjoy the writer’s style and information and as long as most of the stuff is wow related I’ll be sure to check this site on a regular basis.
