So you’re a highly sought after rogue (feel free to laugh now) sitting around Shattrah on your mount looking for something to do. Your buddies aren’t on (and you don’t like pug tanks because they generally lack the threat generation of your favorite tank and you either have to hold way back on your damage output or you simply die a lot. While I’m not saying all pug tanks out there are like that, I’ve had enough experience with them to say a good many of them are). So instances are out and you don’t feel like PvP. That doesn’t leave much.
Now, I hate most of the daily quesst. Those birds in Skettis can go fly a kite in a thunderstorm for all I care. But Zasp, thats where I get all my money!, you may say. Well if you’re a Rogue and are a Swords, Maces, or Fist Weapon “combat spec” or any combination of the three… You be doing it wrong.
Now you’re prolly wondering what the heck I am talking about, as very few people claim dailies are the wrong way about getting money. We’ll I’ll tell ya what you do. You go to this mystic land called Mana Tombs.
Yes, Mana Tombs.
Now your prolly wondering, why Mana Tombs? Well there are 2 chests spawns that are all soloable, and 2 possible Adamantite/Khorium spawn points. Which translate into a lot of money.
But I don’t have mining Zasp! Well, it’s still a lot more profitable then doing your dailies. And I’ll make this disclaimer now, but I have yet to be able to do all the dailies in Netherwing Ledge or Skettis and Blade’s Edge in less then 50 minutes. Also, I have yet to touch the new ones in the Isle of Quel’danas because we elected to reroll right before patch 2.4. So I may be mistaken a little bit but I can live with it, as I’m not about to attempt to go do a set on a character I no longer play. I’d much rather have it reserved for my new Rogue or my new Shaman, so it feels all squeaky clean.
Go watch this video, because it describes all the little things short of recommending a Combat build, and waiting for the cooldowns between each pull. And if I were to make a video it would hopefully be along the lines of this.
For me, the dailies do not compare to being able to do my own thing and farm on my own terms. Every chest gives five to six gold and there are 2 per run so it’s between 10g-12g from the chests alone, which include at least one green, normally a scroll of some sort, and pretty often a blue gem of some sort. Not to mention the mobs you have to kill drop greens, cloth, and vendor trash. Just that, depending on your luck, can net ya quite a bit of money before you’re locked out.
‘Locked out’ meaning the instance limit Blizzard put in back in pre-bc because of the Rogues and Hunters farming rare drops in all sorts of instances, and they didn’t like us doing it which I can understand as it could damage the market. The instance limit is reached after 5 runs, and when this limit is reached I count this as a complete run. This is when I go back to my trusty bank and mail box and mail things to my private bank toon, or bank the Scrolls of Agility and Strength for the raid later in the week.
My last run I did on my Rogue netted me 70g not including the greens, a couple gems, and the ore I happened to mine. Which only increases the amount of money you can obtain. Now you’re prolly wondering why I keep mentioning the greens.
DISENCHANT THEM! Don’t vendor them for instant gratification! Just disenchant them! I’m sure you have a guild enchanter that would have no problem doing it for you especially if you’re tipping them. You can have a stockpile of mats for all the enchants you could ever want or you can sell them on the Auction House. Now here’s a note about the BoE blues, check to see how much they sell for on the Auction House and what they disenchant into. If the shard sells for more then the item or you simply need shards, Disenchant it! Doing this can both increase your profit and keep your spending down when you go to enchant that new shiny weapon with Mongoose.
Now if you can mine, you can either sell the ore on the auction house, or bribe a friend of yours into prospecting them for you, hoping you get gems that you can either use or sell. Even more income by simply farming Mana Tombs.
I’ve made over 5000g in 4-5 days just from this, is it the fastest way? Prolly not, as I have not seen a Jewelcrafter or a person play the auction house, but if you are willing to do it you’ll have your Epic mount in no time. And its a lot more fun then normal farming for me, at least I groove on controlling my environment and keeping myself focused. Being focused means you can’t just hit sinister strike a couple times and go back to watching TV while your white damage finishes the mob off. If you do that you most likely will die, and if you’re focused it means you’re going to be more productive in your farming.
Now go have fun in Mana Tombs!
Till next week,
Zasp

I farmed MT for the felsteel gloves pattern a little while back (leveling blacksmithing blows) and can very much attest to what you say here. I’m not entire sure why I went stupid and never went back after getting the pattern to drop, though…
Sure does beat doing dailies…I already have a job, I don’t need another…

1000g a day?
April 9th, 2008
Metal+drops+coin+shards…with a bit of luck, yeah, I could see it happening. Would take a lot of luck, though…

@teh Khol
Ya Blacksmithing is indeed not that much fun and not that rewarding for anyone. And you’re not stupid just its really easy to forget about something like this because of how simple it truly is, till you start using it and loath the fact that if Blizzard ever attempted to patch out stealth farming instances, it would be a very sad day.
@Iratio
It was close to that, but when you get around 70g at a min per run normally and each run takes about 50 minutes it starts to add up fast with out even playing the auction house. Add in the fact I normally ended up with at least 2 stacks of Adamantite that pretty much flies of the Auction house at any price between 20-25g a stack it adds up pretty quick. And since I’m crazy and could do it all day if I really wanted to it adds up even faster, all it takes is some dedication.

Hmm..
might be time to break out the rogue again. Of course…I have no idea where he is at right now

Can this be pulled off with a feral druid?
April 16th, 2008
@Rattavong
I’ve never had a druid past level 29, so I can not say for sure. But I will say it does not favor them. As they need to have engineering to be able to open any locked chests which happen to be a great majority of em.
Not to mention deal with up to 3 mobs a time that can deal a lot of damage, but I suppose any decently geared Feral should/might be overcome that with an insane life total and being able to just out tank it. Heck a boomkin managed to do it, though he/she died a lot, and deaths reduce the amount of money you earn by a lot. You can always give it a shot
