Possibly you were expecting exciting news, along the lines. But I don’t know what you find exciting!
My Paladin has dinged 68 after a very slow week, but it should be picking up over the next couple days and I can see level 70 in my sights!
I am very excited, as I still have yet to stop enjoy tanking other then when I suck it up and not know where certain mobs spawn and they get on the healer and I’m out of mana. That’s not very fun, and I may or may not get poked at for it. But it only takes one time to fix my mistakes normally, which I am pretty happy about. So far it’s been pretty awesome and I’m enjoying my ride to 70 even if it has been far slower then normal.
I still have over half of Zangarmarsh, all of Terrokar, all of Nagrand (save the Ring of Blood because someone needed to tank it) and everything past that. So if I ever get a set of Ret gear around I may go questing at 70 for some gold.
That is definitely my only complaint so far, the pure suck of questing. I simply kill too slow to be efficient at it. Maybe I haven’t learned how to actually do it yet. But unless its melee mobs that I figure out will be awesome for grinding, it pretty much sucks to solo. I’m lucky enough not to have to do so most of the time.
I’ve been able to keep my goal of no Blessing of Salvation, for the most part. Some bosses I just can’t get my threat up there. Also of course sometimes an Elemental Shaman and a Fury Warrior just can’t help all the threat they produce in certain encounters.
Like Epoch Hunter in Old Hillsbrad? Very hard to not use Blessing of Salvation, even if its most likely going to get dispelled in 5 seconds. It still lets me build a slight threat lead over my DPS for when my Righteous Fury gets dispelled. Which is very frustrating currently, because I lack the training how to keep track of my buffs, position the boss and make sure I’m hitting the right buttons to make sure I keep threat on the boss. I know it will come with time, but until then people will have to put up till I notice it, and then able to correct it without skipping a beat.
Its such a different game from a tank’s perspective, I help control the tempo, I “lead” even if I don’t know where I’m going or where I should go. Not going to lie, it’s pretty easy as a Rogue just to skate past everything.
Of course, ask me about Mana Tombs I can tell you almost anything about that place from stealth farming it so much. Even if that place sucks on Normal because there aren’t many good drops and the trash is really annoying. Especially when you are 4 manning or running it before you’re “technically” not supposed to be there yet. Regardless, it’s fun and far more exciting then doing a quest.
I’m most looking forward to Shattered Halls, and anything Heroic. Mostly because I want to see how I manage the transition from easy mode to mode where screw ups are not allowed. And for Shattered Halls because I hear it’s the Prot Paladin’s wet dream, since they are very few casters. And while I put up with casters, I do not like them unless theres a spot where I can line of sight them. That and I have no reflective threat and what fun is that?
Eh that’s enough rambling for now, I should be 70 the next time I write something here and hopefully it’ll be on my gear list for getting ready for Heroics, and possibly getting a set up to be uncrushable if somehow I end up “raid” tanking.
Till next week!

When I first hit 70 and began my dailies on the Island, I found it incredibly frustrating as I had just respecced to Holy after a nearly uninterrupted career in Shadow. For awhile I wouldn’t bother unless I could find a partner to duo, which as often as not was unavailable. It wasn’t that I couldn’t do them, but rather, the doing took way to long to be efficient and enjoyable.
Sooner or later, though, I began to figure out a proper spell rotation that would allow me an easy solo.
A lot of times it is just figuring out what you are capable of, and playing to those strengths. I’m sure you’ll find the right niche, and before you know it you won’t have to worry about questing anymore, for the most part.
At least until October.
Er, pardon. “November. ”

I <3 Prot Pally Tanking.
And if you’re not opposed to mods, something that I’ve started using for tanking in Karazhan is PallyPower. It automatically tracks greater Blessings on people, which you probably don’t care about yet, but it also tracks if Righteous Fury is on. I’m sure it’s overkill if that’s all you are using it for, but it is awesome for grouping, since it also allows coordination with any other paladins that are running it.

I ran a Shattered Halls PUG with a tanking Prot Pallie last night. Wow. The Pal said “don’t touch anything until I get to the end of the hall” and proceeded to aggro more than a dozen mobs. He AoEed them down almost without our help, relying mainly on the healer to keep him standing.
It was truly a sight to behold.
We cleared the entire instance in just around 45 minutes — wicked faster than any other time I’ve run it.
(He later said he wasn’t geared for Heroics. I assume he was joking.)

From another who is leveling a pally (and who must. be. 70. by. saturday) - Good Luck! Aelflaed is ret, and will probably end up Holy.
And she’s 40% through 68.

I might suggest that prior to hitting 70 you start and try to finish any and all key quest chains. Nothing is worse than getting to the front door and watching a bunch of 70s go “I thought you had the key” or worse yet being deep inside the instance and having to run out to let someone in.
That being said I look forward to pally posts, my poor pally is stuck at 14 and may never make it beyond that. Maybe once my priest(64), my lock(10) and my warrior(45) get to 70
BTW nothing is more fun as a hunter than trying and succeeding on pulling agro off a prot pally, thank god for FD. My guild likes a challenge on Moroes, I get to chain trap in there but only after the pally sends the shield off flying
Worst case I can’t pull agro in 10 seconds so I switch targets to follow the kill order. We do that since we use kara to gear up people, lately thats been a pally so keeping one mob out of the mix helps.

I should know better than to post when Im not feeling well.
Just to clarify the early statements some, so that they are in context.
Anyone who is approaching 70 should do their key quest chains. I have gotten runs simply because I was the only person who had the key to an instance.
As a hunter I know that the longer a single mob fight goes on the better my chance is of pulling agro, it’s a fact of life if you are geared as well as or better than your tank. As a dps person you should have a threat meter installed as should your tank, if your not coming close to pulling agro then you can open up the dps flood gates even further. Just be ready to back off dps or use your agro shedding skills, lacking that learn to dodge
Pally agro is a gift and a curse, if I have to pull a mob I have tell about the 2nd consecrate to do it. Any time a pally tank can get of 2 or 3 consecrates down then pulling a mob is a long term project. So once that pally has gotten the 3rd consecrate down you can open up full group/aoe dps without to much fear of pulling agro, since by the time you do the trash is going to be dead or almost dead.
Ideally I love running with a bear and a pally in a raid, each has it’s own flavor of threat which makes them a treat to have together. Bears excel at high instant threat and controller small groups, they also don’t suffer from mana shortages (accept maybe the healers … ). Pallys seem to shine with larger mob groups and the longer the fight goes the less likely a mob is to get away from them, their mana shortage is offset by being able to bubble a party member and having good healers.
I raid Kara with 2 separate guilds, when I heal we have 1 very well geared pally tank and a well geared pally tank. When I play dps we have a 4 or 5 well geared players (1 bear main tank and usually 2 or 3 healers) and the rest of the raid is getting geared up.
