The Egotistical Priest

An irreverent and opinionated discussion of the many classes
in the World of Warcraft gaming universe.

A Rival Macro

While we appreciate all the ‘3 things you love about your class’, there were not nearly enough ninjas involved. In fact, ninjas were only mentioned three times. Maybe four.

Also, there was no gold.

We know we said you had a choice, but come on. It was really about the gold.

We are a forgiving village, though, with a long and illustrious history of no one ever hearing about us. Can’t last forever, so we’re going to try this thing where we talk about the priest class and you listen to us and do what we tell you.

Miss Space Goat does it all the time, so it can’t be too hard.

FIRST. A macro. Everyone loves macros, and it makes you look really smart when you tell other people how to do a macro. Macros are good for two things: accomplishing more than one thing at a time, and spamming battlegrounds chat. YES THAT IS US. WE DID THAT. And we put you on ignore when you complained. You should have taken RH first like we told you!!

Ahem.

Here is a priesty macro. It will serve you well, so use it judiciously.

/mock
/cast Shadow Word: Pain
/cast Shoot

Pick an icon like a melty skull. The one with the green goo and the eyeballs looking up like “Oh no, ninjas!” It may be from a warlock spell. Doesn’t matter.

This infinitely useful macro will allow you to lay down the pain, and humiliation, on that oppressor who threatens your cloth-wearing hide. It will place that DoT of Pain on them, AND will immediately set you to auto-shooting your wand at the target. No clicking the button twice, no waiting for a cooldown. Click it once and go get a drink. When you come back, one of you will be dead! It is time AND mana efficient, as you are only using one spell, a fire-and-forget spell, and then wanding them to death (yours or theirs).

Think of it like that hunter macro where you put the mark over the target, and send your pet out at the same time. It’s just like that, except your wand is shooting lots of pet…things.

There. Now you are smarter. WE DID YOU A SERVICE, TODAY.

Now give us – er, tell us your favorite macro. Or 1 Million Gold. And we’ll think about relinquishing your precious egotistical priest.

I would have to go with

    /tar demon

If you must know, this one is for Illhoof in Kara and Im pretty certain everyone being sacrificed will appreciate you having it :)

  2. Trollin' Says:

    Either my shackle macro or

    /cast Beserking
/use Icon of the Silver Crescent
    /cast Mind Blast

  3. Tulani Says:

    /e steals %t’s kidney.

  4. Tulani Says:

    Or well…I guess

    #showtooltip Flash Heal
    /stopcasting
    /cast [target=mouseover,exists,help] [exists,help] [target=targettarget,exists,help] Flash Heal

    is good too.

Kidney stealing is better though. Much better.

  5. teh Khol Abides Says:

    I like my sap’n’steal macro:

    /cast Sap
    /cast Pick Pocket

It helps to have autoloot on for that one…

This Rival Village seems to be sneaky and cunning…this may require drastic measures…and a new macro….

/tar A Rival Village of Ninjas
    /cast Summon Pirate Army
    /y YOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  6. Third Time is a Charm Says:

    #showtooltip
/castsequence reset=8 Windfury Totem, Grace of Air Totem

    Mmmmm totem twisting…

    I also have /chicken macro’d… that’s another favorite.

  7. Siobhann Says:

    /tar Rival
    /cast Nature’s Swiftness
    /cast Cyclone

    Gimme Ego back!

  8. Gauntlet Says:

/say To me, my Pretty Pony!
    /cast Summon Charger

  9. A Rival Village Says:

    @ Siobhann

    Can’t. Pirates will eat us.

  10. Esoth Says:

My favorite macro is the following, because it looks like someone got the punctuation backwards:
    /cast !Shoot

  11. Hildi Says:

I have 3 macros total for my priest. For some reason, I never use macros.
    /cast Spirit Volley
    /cast Spirit Lance
    /cast Spirit Chains

lol. I kid you not. If you’ve been there, then you noes why! :)

oh use this sometimes when I feel lazy
    /target xmob
    /cast Shackle Undead

    my mage uses:
    #showtooltip [target=focus,harm] [] Polymorph(rank 1: Turtle)
    /stopcasting
    /clearfocus [modifier:shift][target=focus,dead][target=focus,noexists]
    /focus [target=focus,noexists]
    /cast [target=focus] Polymorph(rank 1: Turtle)

  12. Evea Says:

    /target Sunrath
    /follow
    /get a soda

  13. teh Khol Abides Says:

    @ Siobhann

The Rival Village is right, we totally will. We will be staging a swashbuckling rescue attempt later, if you want in on that.

  14. Stale Says:

    /cast inner focus
    /cast devouring plague

Free cast dev plague… alot cheaper then 1k mana and it heals you through spirit bolts

  15. defensivecat Says:

    My babies:

/cast [harm, nodead] Chain Lightning; Chain Heal

/cast [harm, nodead] Lightning Bolt; Healing Wave

    Behold, the intuitiveness!

  16. Jaqi Says:

    /tar rabbit
    /y FEAR ME!
    /cast Fear
    /cackle

    :D

  17. luke Says:

    i like the classic:

    #showtooltip
    /cast [target:player] (insert random buff/heal here)

  18. Esoth Says:

    @Hildi:
You don’t have the pet bar replace action bar 1 on that?

  19. Hildi Says:

@Esoth - well, way back before they fixed it so that it would actually work with the assorted toolbar addons people use, you *needed* to make macros. So, basically I never really changed to use the action bar swap. TBH, I’m so used to my using my macros for that, when the ghosts pop I just automatically go into kill mode and I never really noticed if the bar pops up lol. Since the guild refuses to go into BT anymore until KJ is dedded, I doubt the macro’s or the toolbar swap will get much use :)

  20. Zaviji Says:

    My fave macro:

    /cast [harm][target=targettarget,harm] Shadowfiend

You mean I don’t need to deselect the tank in order to use shadowfiend on a boss? Excellent!

  21. CocoPoof Says:

Similar to Hildi’s Polymorph, I found this macro within a wonderful “How To Macro” post and can’t believe I ever shackled the old way of tabbing to the target then Shackle. I can stay focused on my healing duties and smack the Shackle button occasionally to keep the mob right where I left it.

    /clearfocus [modifier:shift]
    /clearfocus [exists,dead]
    /focus [target=focus,noexists]
    /cast [target=focus] Shackle Undead

The link to the entire How To is:
    http://priestlyendeavors.wordpress.com/category/tools-addons-macros-and-others/writing-a-macro-series/

If you ever wanted to learn how to write macros. That is the place to start.

The sad news is priestlyendeavors is leaving WOW - QQ

  22. Kestrel Says:

I’m late to the party (as usual), but I must say, Zaviji’s macro just became my favorite!

Oh, I did recently add this to most of my healy spells, though:

    /cast [target=mouseover, help][help][target=targettarget, help][target=player] Greater Heal (or whatever)

This is especially useful for me with Grid.

    And welcome back, Vonya!

  23. Misamane Says:

@ Kestrel: If you’re late, I missed the whole thing.

Here’s one I use for all my priestly buffs.

    #showtooltip
/target (your name here, or “self” i guess)
/castsequence reset=5 Inner Fire, Power Word: Fortitude, Divine Spirit, Shadow Protection
    /targetlasttarget

This lets me spam one button to buff up, and when IF runs out (because it lasts 10 minutes and the others last 30, or I get hit 52 times in under 10 minutes) I can just hit the button once and grab me some armor and spellpowers. Also, targetlasttarget lets me throw up more IF if it runs out during a fight.

  24. Tattoodue Says:

It’s really odd. as frustrating as it can be sometimes, I always go back to rolling priests, undead usually, but I never really got around to using macros. Seemed like quartz took me off of my game. Anyone have any good dps macros?
