Ah, NaNoWriMo, convincing me to type ridiculously long titles. Sadly, that still only counts as five words. Curse you, space bar!
Raiding QQ
Raids are now so easy they’re laughable, and by ‘laughable’, I mean ‘not really much fun to heal’. You know, because nobody actually needs healing. And nobody really needs the badges anymore, so there’s really not much point to sweeping Kara, even if we can do it with six (and a half) players.
If I wanted a game this easy, I’d play Putt Putt Saves the Zoo.
Altitis Malitosis
So we rolled another set of alts.
This is the first time we’ve ever actually leveled up with a full group, and I gotta tell you, it’s WEIRD.
Three dpsers? THREE? That’s ludicrous!
You have to understand, I’ve leveled up as a three man team so many times that having a full group of dpsers just…doesn’t make sense.
Things die too quickly. It’s simple to the point of being, much like raiding, just too damn easy.
I actually look forward to the times when our shaman can’t join us, so we log on his toon and put him on autofollow. One less dpser means the dots I’m cycling actually get a chance to tick off a little. The only way I’m even coming CLOSE to the dps of the rogue and shaman is to AOE any time we get more than two mobs at once.
Tanking Love
And that brings me to another point. Thank you, Blizz, for making AOE threat exist for beartanks. I was actually going to write “non-paladin tanks” but my resident warrior tank tells me that warriors are, as always, getting shafted so hard they’re wondering whether they owe someone money or whether Blizz could go ahead and check for colon cancer while they’re at it. Not that I know this personally…
Tank favoritism aside, the beartank our little babies are driving nuts is actually able to hold threat over my little warlock through my AOEs.
Granted, I don’t toss the thing up immediately upon the pull. I cycle a few dots, bite myself, check to make sure all the mobs are missing at least a little health, and THEN I open up the gates of hell (I’m polite, for a warlock), but I know for a fact that he couldn’t have pulled it of pre-patch.
AOE tanking is king, and I am thrilled that it is no longer JUST the pervue of paladins. I can almost hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth, the cries of “homogenization!” and “world of hybridcraft!”.
I’m not arguing for or against either of those, I’m just sayin that it’s nice that my tank can handle AOE threat, is all.
Trick or Treat
The halloween event is finally over, and I am happy to report that Vonya actually did manage to get a Sinister Squashling (she wanted it for the pet, not the title). After days and days of my characters getting TRICKED instead of treated, 4 times out of 5, my guild took pity and did a few horseman runs to get the adorable little gourdling for me. Much love!
UI Woes
My husband did some trick or treating on my characters when I had to work late or after I’d gone to bed. We found out the hard way that somehow, blizz is actually copying and pasting information from HIS characters and computer over to MINE. The files in my Warcraft folder are physically changing, which is overwriting not only all of my KEYBINDINGS, but also my MACROS.
I have rebuilt my characters exactly five times since the patch, and I am not pleased.
If it was my addons being bizarre, that’d be one thing. But why, exactly, are my macros being deleted? My macros are stored locally! Why are my keybindings getting removed?
I am not pleased.
Not pleased at. all.
*frownyface*
THANK YOU!
Last, but definitely not least, a big thank you to ZASP, who braved the (ick, ugh, blech, bleargh) PVP walls of Orgrimmar to get my hunter the fishing achievement requirements there. He did it because I hate PVP with a purple passion, and I am very much grateful. <3
Dear Blizz,
Fewer achievements that require me to do PVP stuff, please. Or give my character some kind of “writ of good faith” or something, so that if I attack anyone, I’m screwed, but I’m otherwise just eyeballed suspiciously. I only wanted to fish! Is that a crime?!
Love, Vonya

Macros & keybindings are stored remotely now, live since patch 3.0.2 although the behavior you’re experiencing is the opposite of what should be happening.

I don’t understand, your warrior tank was having trouble holding multiple mobs? My mage with all his shiny new instant AOE spells dropped a Flamestrike, Dragons Breath, Flamestrike, Blastwave, Flamestike, Arcane Explosion rotation on every 3+ pull in Heroic Magisters Terrace, interspersed with Instant Pyroblasts and Fireblasts to taste. I never once pulled aggro. Not that anything lived too long, we didn’t even CC anything which I thought was a little wierd.
My Fireball was crit’ing for 6k+ it was ridiculous, I don’t think we even had a kill order come to think of it…craziness.

Your resident warrior tank makes me scratch my head. Prot warriors can now easily AoE tank with the best of them. I don’t even use any CC anymore. We have never been in a more fun, better state than right now. Not only can I tank through Seed of Corruption, Blizzard and Hurricane without problems, I also usually end up on #1 or #2 for damage in heroic 5-mans.

@all
Tanking over dps isnt so much the issue of said warrior tank as tanking over the threat of the other tank.
Comparatively, the warrior is still on the bottom rung of aoe threat.
Just a little clarification there…

I’m guessing they might have something in place to copy the local files over to the server if they exist, to support everybody who had local macros.
So… it might be that you need to log on, get your macros/bindings copied, and then *remove the local versions*.
Just a thought. No testing or research done.

My Macros and keybindings disappear. I only play off of one box and when I go poof, they go poof too. I’ve adapted resetting keybinding to every log in as a way of life for now. Ticket queues are so long that I suspect the Litch King will be dead before I see a GM.
I’ve ended up swiftly running across the Scryer Tier, leaping out into the air over lower city, shifting my forms…..
spreading my paws…
flapping my paws….
and remembering the keybindings.

Keeping aggro off the dps as a prot warrior isn’t an issue at all. It’s almost too easy now, almost boring. Keeping aggro off a bored, non-warrior tank though, is a little different.
When the feral druid can (and does…repeatedly…in every raid and 5 man you run…seemingly just to mock you) pull aggro off you with simple swipe spam, in seconds, right after you dropped shockwave and thunderclap and are spamming everything you have…well, you begin to wonder why you’re bothering with a prot warrior :p Prot dps is alot better than it used to be, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still hardly a contribution compared to what an actual dps class/spec can bring if said dps isn’t suffering from head trauma.
It’s a moot point, as prot warriors have plenty of threat to do their job, but they are still miles behind druids and paladins in aoe threat. And it becomes decidedly not fun to be a prot warrior when a feral druid or prot paladin feels compelled to prove it…over and over and over :p

Not much of a shadow priest, and havn’t been shadow (except a single easy 5-man) since 3.02. However, I wonder if the buff to AOE threat for warrior and druid tanks is a buff to shadow priest DPS? SW:P for everyone?

I’ve been struck by the alt-thosis myself recently. I suppose that’s pretty normal, until something called an expansion hits the shelves.

I’ve got a prot warrior, and a good pally can steal from me, but the bears generally can’t, unless they grab them before I can shockwave them, or if they taunt.
Not sure what’s going on there. My warrior is simply *way* too much fun now.
November 5th, 2008
I can’t say anything directly about prot warriors in a 5 man where they are the only tank. Yes I can and do pull agro but thats more a function of a dip and spike issue, the tank gets a dip in rng luck and I get a spike in rng luck, that or hes just being lazy I catch him doing it.
I have seen warrior tanks strugle to peal a mob of a pally tank and so I can believe that their threat in general doesnt scale as well as a pally does. Since the resident bear tank has no problem pulling a mob off the pally that probably means their threat is fine as well.
It very well could be that the difference between like geared warriors vs pally/bear is rather steep so to overcome that you may have to out gear that bear/pally.
What it comes down to is the prot warriors either out gear their counterparts or after the 1st few wipes someone learns where to park their mobs so they don’t inherit someone elses or give them to someone else. It took 2 ZA runs for our pally/prot warrior combo to learn their lesson. Hey repairing cloth may not be cheap,I may have only topped out at 30g total, but Im betting they both cleared 100g in repair bills. (over the 2 runs)

I lost all my general macros too. o_O It happened right after my brother and I logged onto each other’s computers one day. (and then logged back onto my own computer) I didn’t have a ton, but I still had to try and remember what all I had and what commands they used. I think i have the important ones rebuilt. I don’t think my brother had the problem, he probably would have mentioned it if he did.

All I can say is: There is absolutely nothing wrong with Protection Warriors in terms of threat, AoE or single target. A lot of it has to do with talents and gear itemization. I know that I tried doing without Armored to the Teeth, and when I first began trying heroics, I had almost no hit rating or expertise. I struggled with threat against semi competent DPS who were AoE happy. I regemmed, re-enchanted, and changed my spec a bit. I also changed the order which I use my abilities at the beginning.
Now, I’m able to hold both AoE and single target threat over T5+ geared DPS in what effectively amounts to a set of lvl 66-70 dungeon blues. To give an example, I did a craptacular pull in Heroic SV last night, pulling 8 mobs instead of the 4 I wanted. I charged in, clapped and waved, shouted, popped trinkets and Shield Wall, clapped again, and then started my normal single target cycle, clapping another time later I think.
The Ret Pally, Rogue, and Warlock never pulled threat, despite the Pally putting up over 2k DPS (post “nerf”, even) during that fight (It also helps that I had Vigilance on the Pally). The Warlock spammed SoC from beginning to end. I have no idea what the Rogue was doing, but things were dying quickly. I didn’t lose mob attention for a moment. Not 1 second. None of them. No one else even got a scratch (Granted, I almost died, but that’s why you don’t pull 8 mobs in a heroic when you’re wearing dungeon blues).
The only time I lose aggro is when I or someone else does something really stupid, like starting the pull in Battle Stance and not realizing (hey, it happens), or someone nuking a mob before I get a hold of them.

all I know is…Hildi Jenkins is the name, Holy Nova is mah game!
muwhawahahahahaha!
…and I can’t pull a mob off my tank despite the fact that he is crazy and pulls 10 mobs at a time and I am bombing him with 8K+ heals. (I bet you think I’m kidding, huh?)
There is nothing wrong with warriors. (unless KJ targets a fury warrior for clones in the middle of the melee group. Gets busy right about then lol)

I’m with the bunch that are equally confused regarding the status of your macros and key bindings. Since 3.0.2, macros have been stored remotely on the game servers instead of locally on your PC. This was a change that benefited many of the people who played on multiple computers and got tired of having to recreate their macros for each separate computer. Bornakk confirmed it in Server Side Macros and Wryxian repsonded in [<3 Blizzard] Macros save change.
Have you considered deleting the macros from your folders and starting fresh? Perhaps what you have locally is overwriting what is supposed to be remotely accessed or even updating the ones on Blizzard’s servers!
