I love the Glyph of Levitate.
I do.
It’s silly. It’s nearly useless.
Levitate itself is nearly (but not entirely) useless.
Designating an entire Minor Glyph slot to improve this silly spell by removing the reagent (and not actually changing the behavior of the spell in any way) could easily be construed as a wasteful glyph choice.
I do not care.
Unless there are some really impressive minor glyphs that appear on the horizon, I will always have the Glyph of Levitate.
Floating is COOL, people. And if you think my priest is going to go out and farm boatloads of light feathers just to feed her floaty addiction, you are DEAD WRONG.
Now that it’s free? I use it all the time!
Slime rivers in the Construct wing? Please form an orderly line and take a number. Your levitate will be coming shortly.
Can’t quite seem to make the jump on Thaddius? Ask for a levitate, and float down at your ease.
Bored in Dalaran? Float! Experimentation has proven that floating increases game enjoyment and the cool factor of your avatar by at least 200%.
It’s science.
So that’s me. Love that levitation glyph. What about you guys? What’s your favorite “useless” glyph?
March 19th, 2009
My favorite, yet useless, glyph would have to be the Hunter’s Glyph of Posessed Strength (is that what it’s called?)
It gives the hunters pet a 50% bonus to damage during Eye’s of the Beast. I never used this useless spell until this glyph, but for some reason now I have so much fun using it. Creeping up on Horde with a Cat with prowl on, making them think they are getting ganked by a druid – priceless.

Personally, I think that’s what minor glyphs are for. Fun.
None of them really have effects that will adjust your abilities to add to the raid, in fact, I wish they would add more fun little minor glyphs for hunters!
My favourite glyph on my mage is my Glyph of the Penguin, and I’m certainly picking up a Glyph of Slow Fall when I get a chance, which has the same effect as your levitate one

I, too, suffer from a floaty addiction
I take special delight in casting it on twitchy night-elves who suddenly find themselves unable to hop-hop-hop down the corridor….
When I first started using it in Naxx, people were surprised – and then whined if I didn’t get to them before they plunged into the ooze. So… I macro’d it to an emote about people needing to “lighten up” – and it has since become a guild joke that when someone QQs about anything, I levitate them….
Definitely keeping that glyph
March 19th, 2009
Definitely love levitate glyph and the spell levitate itself.
So many fun uses. I even play games of levitate chicken with another priest friend when I’m bored. Jump off the edge at Krasus landing in Dalaran. First one to land without dying wins.
March 19th, 2009
I love gift of levitate because it makes druids stop jumping. And if you use it and then Fade, you look like a ghost!
That’s right, a Forsaken ghost. Don’t think too hard about the lore, or you’ll twist your brain into a pretzel.
March 19th, 2009
Don’t forget the that you can avoid the fall damage after a Malygos Vortex by using it!
Saves me and my healers!
March 19th, 2009
I’m with you: the glyph of levitate is absolutely my favorite.
Before I got this glyph I used to carry around a stack of light feathers, and then never, ever, ever cast levitate. There were even some situations when I fell off a cliff and could have used it, except (1) I barely remembered I had the spell, and (2) could not find it on my button bar. Fail.
But now I use it all the time. Especially in Naxx, but just in general, too. Is the shore too crowded by mobs to fish? Walk out on the lake and fish (just remember to recast levitate every couple of minutes!).
This glyph makes levitate so much fun.
March 19th, 2009
First thing I did when I got that glyph on me dwarfy priesty self were jump off of Darnassus. Just fer funs.
(although, next time I’s gonna remember ta jump towards land, and not out ta sea…)
March 19th, 2009
The levitate glyph was my first and I think it’s the only one I haven’t replaced at least once. Levitate along with the iron dwarf flask is the best combo in the game. Pop a light from the lunar festival holiday under you and start dancing and bam, automatic part.
March 19th, 2009
Everything Zaviji said, me too.
I’d say its extremely useful for some fishing in Northrend, such as cuttlefish. It proved useful in Occulus when someone needed to go get a new dragon – and yes the construct quarter – though I never thought to use it on the Thaddius jump.
March 19th, 2009
I love levitate. I’m always the person waiting to rez people after Frogger, and I also throw levitate on everyone who makes it through so they don’t have to go in the ooze before Grobby.
March 19th, 2009
I’m right there with you. When I was looking through the useless minor priest glyphs, I jumped right on that levitate for free. I use it liberally as well.
Glad I’m not the only one.
March 19th, 2009
Mages feel your love with glyph of Slow Fall. Essentially the same thing, but we don’t get that neat floaty effect.
March 19th, 2009
I’ve had this since glyphs came out. I love it, I won’t quite say it will never go away for me but I’d be hard pressed to remove it.
It is even better now because I can ceaselessly cast levitate on anyone. I especially like doing that to the people who constantly jump around. It’s pretty funny to watch their whole world turn upside down because all of a sudden they can’t jump anymore
March 19th, 2009
Totally Agree. This is the best minor glyph. Especially since they now allow us to cast it on anyone. Besides all the things that people have mentioned above using it for my two favorite are…
1. Going up to the purple parlor – a nice quite get away – and jumping off the balcony when I want to get back into Dalaran. I like seeing either how long I can drop before needing to click it, or seeing how far accross the city I float.
2. After doing a quest in the water. Swim up to the top, pop levetate, then get on my magnificent flying carpet, and off I go to my next destination.

Also after reading this blog, and the comments, I think I might add levetate to one of the button combo’s on my healbot. Sure it isn’t really a healing spell, but it will make it easier to cast on people in naxx than having to go down and click the button I have in the corner.
Also, I love the idea of casting it on jumping elves. That has got to be hysterical.
March 19th, 2009
I hardly ever use Levitate, but after reading this, my first stop this evening will be to the AH to pick up the glyph. Jumpy elves on Stormrage, beware.
March 19th, 2009
Likewise my mage’s favorite is the slow fall glyph for the exact same reason. No reagant and anytime there’s so much as a slight hill to jump from I do it and float down gracefully.
March 19th, 2009
glyph of pickpocketing
Zasp will understand why
March 19th, 2009
I have nothing to add as everyone has already said everything I would have. I only want to say that I too LOVE my levitate glyph!
March 19th, 2009
Glyph of Levitate ftw
Don’t leave home without it. Even better now you can levitate other players….
March 20th, 2009
Echoing the other mages here… Glyph of Slow Fall for the win.
March 20th, 2009
I am gloving the glyph of slow fall.
Prior to it’s existence I would rather take falling damage than griding up some more feathers.
Now, it gets used all the time, especially now it is castable on others.
My primary use for it…. Leavig the Stormwind Mage tower after a port.
It used to be a case of either taking the damage, or trying to time the blink…
Now, it’s pop a slow fall or two and glide gracefully down
March 20th, 2009
I play a shaman. Water walking and water breathing minor glyphs. Love them. Incredible, especially when you can’t fly.
March 20th, 2009
I’m also all about the Levitate
A fun thing to try is fly up to that ridiculously tall Temple of Storms in Storm Peaks, get a good run up and see how many zones you can levitate over.
Just remember to recast every couple of minutes
March 20th, 2009
glyph of water walking and glyph of water breathing. Nothing like a Jesus complex, now with mounts!
the glyph of ancestral recall is dead sexy so I don’t consider it useless (7.5 minute hearths ftw)
March 20th, 2009
My very favorite use with Glyph of Levitate gotta be in Arathi Basin. Situation at the Gold Mines? Ride up to the edge instead of going all the way around and levitate down while throwing instant heals at everything and everyone. By far one of the coolest ways to save the day!
March 20th, 2009
Glyph of Death Grip for DKs. Resets the CD on the spell everytime you kill something that gives XP or honor. It’s a major glyph because of PVP implications, and it’s sooooo not the best glyph to have when you’re a PvE DPSer, but it’s still soooo much fun.
March 21st, 2009
Blurred Speed. Just love it.
March 21st, 2009
I don’t think it’s absolutely useless, but the glyph of penguin for mages. LOL. I love that you can turn your foes (the ones NOT immune) into little flightless birds that where tuxedoes, YAY!

@Jess
I got chain-penguined in AV the other day and laughed so hard I nearly threw my back out. If I was a mage, that would be my favourite too.
March 23rd, 2009
Totally obsessed with Levitate.
Nothing is more satisfying than a Levitate>Power Infusion>Holy Nova spam proc’ing Divine Aegis on all five party members.
So pretttty!
April 15th, 2009
I do actually find this useful, as well as fun
During (flightless) questing… it is a blessing to be able to jump off cliffs/over trash mobs as often as you like instead of running down, around, or through.
You can also use levitate to hide your upper body beneath the graveyard banners in Alterac Valley during long, chaotic battles… often no one notices you there, healing like crazy, until they get close enough to feel your Holy Nova :} BamBamBamBam…, team healed, Horde dead, banner protected!
BEST use of levitate ever: levitating with my back to a rezzing stone in Arathi Basin… sneaking heals to my team while the Horde ran all around me ignoring the floating “spirit of resurrection.” muahahahaha
